Sill and floor repairs

This part has taken forever!

It’s slow, awkward and became quite demoralising….mainly because my welding skills were barely good enough….but the floor patches are solid and the sills went in perfectly! So all in I’m pleased just not with the time spent!

Floor panels and replacement sills from Mini Machine, seemed good and fit well.

Cut out the old floor, drilled spot welds until I was seeing dots everywhere and then brushed, ground and scraped out rust and dirt for what seemed like forever.

Bought myself a spot welder….great tool. Satisfying and quick unlike the Mig! Both sills welded on in an hour compared to the floors that took days.

Rust cure, primer and paint when into the sill cavity. I seam sealed areas too, before paint, for max protection and then brushed on some cavity wax and fired it up the pillars and gaps too since we hope not to come into this area again!

Also replaced the rear wheel arch to valence panels too that weld onto the subframe mounting plates. So all the typical rust traps are dealt with!

Next it’s time to finish cleaning off the underside, front to back and then seal it all up….more next time.
