Cam Break in
With a new main wiring loom and plumbing in place it's time to start her up!
The timing and points were easy enough but wouldn't start. Finally worked it out, get to TDC, pulled the distributor drive shaft and put it back 180 degrees around. Flicked the key and started instantly!!! 😁😁😁
Now we need to break in the cam, 2,500rpm for 20 mins or so. I found an old 1275GT rev counter on eBay and wired that up, so we can hold the engine at the right speed.
A bit nervy but I guess we see what our build skills are like at this point!😬😱
Oil pressure was good to start with, but after 5 mins it had climbed to the top of the pressure gauge (100psi) and wasnt dropping as the engine warmed up. So we shut off to save the oil gallery caps. Changed the pressure release valve spring back to the old one, it was slightly longer but not as hard to compress, but kept the ball bearing instead of the original aluminium shuttle.
Fired up again and the engine ran faultlessly for 20 mins at 75psi on the oil gauge and just over normal on water temperature.
BTW….sounds great at the back with the Superlite LCB, straight pipe with RC40 back box only! It's all about "smiles per mile"🤣😁
